The past few years at TLD cycles, we have been giving back to the community by sponsoring keen local cyclists. Those who have ambitious goals they are trying to reach but haven't always got the knowledge or equipment they need to reach them.

Meet our newest sponsor, Jake Williams

Jake has been a customer of TLD cycles since 2020 and in this time he has found a growing passion for triathlon and road cycling. Jake completed his first Olympic distance also in 2020 before completing his first half and full ironman races in 2022, racing stourhead immortal and ironman Frankfurt.

We look forward to supporting Jake this year as he hopes to keep improving. He raced in the Cotswold 113 70.3 on the 4th of June before giving us this little nugget of info.

The race went pretty well, the goal was to go under 5 hours and I went 4.58. Was alot closer than I would've liked but still not bad for my experience. Swam just over 31 mins which is good for me, biked the 56 miles in 2.37 on a very flat course (averaging 34.2 kph) and then struggled in the hot weather on the half marathon running abit of a disappointing 1.46 Overall, a very fun day and loved flying around on flat quiet roads”

Jake took on the challenging ironman Wales course on 3rd of September, here’s what he had to follow up with

Ironman Wales was an epic event, the day started on the beach watching the sun rise whilst the Welsh national anthem played, crowds filling in every space ready to watch the 3.8km swim start. Sea conditions were looking calm and steady and we set off. I managed to complete the swim with no real difficulties. Once out of the water, we had a long run to transition through the streets of Tenby. The sun was already beaming down and making for a hot day, the bike course is notoriously challenging, and I started feeling the effects a lot earlier than I was hoping for. Though I still managed to get my head down and battle through the 180km hilly bike route. Saunders foot hill was a big highlight of the day, where the crowds took over the road in Tour de France style giving me a huge boost. It was then onto the run with the hills not stopping. A 4 loop marathon around Tenby, with the Welsh fans enjoying the weather a lot more than I was. The finish line was the best I’ve had yet bringing it home in 12 hours 42 minutes, a fair bit longer than was initially hoping for, but I was just really happy to make it around. Overall, it was a great experience to race Ironman Wales and even after the long recovery I wouldn’t hesitate to go back if given the chance, the course was amazing, and the crowds were even better.
